south china sea

China has accused the US of “serious military provocation” after a B-52 bomber mistakenly flew within two nautical miles of Chinese-claimed territory in the South china sea...
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the incident involving the B-52 bomber took place last week near the Cuarteron Reef in the Spratly archipelago, disputed territory claimed by china and several niehbors.

The Chinese Defense Ministry then issued a statement on Saturday accusing the US of deliberately raising tensions in the disputed region. “The actions by the US side constitute a serious military provocation and are rendering more complex and even militarizing conditions in south china sea..\
Beijing claims the island chain is within China’s territorial borders. China has filed a formal complaint about the flypast with the US through the US embassy, prompting the Pentagon to look into the matter.
It demanded Washington immediately take measures to prevent such incidents and damage to relations.
The ministry also repeated previous assertions that it would take whatever necessary measures to protect China’s sovereignty and security.Navy Commander Bill Urban, a Pentagon spokesman, said the US regularly conducted B-52 training missions throughout the region but there was no plan for the B-52 to fly within 12 nautical miles of any artificial island.
A unnamed senior US defense official told the Wall Street Journal that bad weather had contributed to the pilot flying off course and into the area claimed by China.“For this mission, there was no intention of flying to within 12 nautical miles,” Urban said. “The Chinese have raised concerns with us about the flight path of a recent mission,” he said. “We are looking into the matter.”

In October, a US Navy destroyer, the uss lessen, sailed within 12 nautical miles of Subi reef to deliberately challenge China’s claims of territorial waters there, prompting Chinese patrol boats to is:sue a warning that further “provocative actions” might lead to accelerated Chinese construction in the area.

new castle disease

Around 41,000 birds, mostly fighting cocks and range chicken, have died in Central Luzon due to the Newcastle disease virus (NDV), according to the regional Department of Agriculture (DA-3).
Also known as the Avian pest, the virus afflicted poultry mostly in Pampanga, Tarlac and Nueva Ecija.
Lapuz also called on poultry owners to have their chickens tested in provincial and municipal veterinary laboratories if they are showing symptoms of the disease.
As Central Luzon supplies poultry products in Metro Manila, Lapuz assured the public that there is nothing to worry about poultry coming from the region.DA officials said the virus possibly spread after typhoons Lando and Nona hit Luzon, causing the birds to get stressed which eventually weakened their body system.
Officials were also looking at migratory birds as carriers of NDV.
Dr. Eduardo Lapuz Jr., chief of DA-3 regulatory division, said the department had already implemented measures to prevent the further widespread of the disease, including the distribution of vaccine and disinfectant particularly to backyard raisers.
As Central Luzon supplies poultry products in Metro Manila, Lapuz assured the public that there is nothing to worry about poultry coming from the region.
He explained, chicken that died from NDV cannot enter the dressing plant, as those that died from the disease have swollen face and hemorrhages.Pampanga-based correspondent Justine Dizon contributed to this report.
